Chess is a dynamic tool for differentiated instruction as it addresses all of Bloom's Taxonomy of Higher Thinking Skills, as well as Gardner's Multiple Intelligences. Many studies have linked chess programs to improved scores in reading and math, as well as improved self-esteem.

Lesson Plans for Teachers (K-12) Download Page You will need a username and password to access this resource for classroom teachers. If you have a lesson plan, collection of lesson plans, chess instructional webpages, or some particular technique that you have found effective in introducing or teaching some topic in chess, please send it to John at: chessteacher@comcast.net
When submitting in your resource, you are asked to send:
- the text of the article, lesson plan, or resource, or a URL that links to the text of the resource;
- the author's name, school affiliation, email address, and street address;
- an abstract of no more than 50 words;
- a list of 3 to 5 keywords (optional); and
- a list of the categories to which the resource belongs. Please see the Selected K-12 Lesson Plans and Collections page for category designations. You can classify the resource as falling into more than one category, i.e. a PreK-2 plan on Chess Openings with a Curriculum Connection to Problem Solving.
Some sample lessons from the Chess Academy's "Chess Math and Extended Response Curriculum" are available below for preview. The Chess Academy has also created a Chess, Math and Extended Response Workbook. This is a new and improved version of the Chess and Math Lessons. The Chess, Math and Extended Response Workbook is also available in Spanish (Currículo de Matemáticas y Ajedrez en Español). The cost is $15.00 for each workbook.
